3 Reasons Why Mommy Porn is Bad for You

The books in the 50 Shades of Grey series are mega bestsellers.  If you haven’t heard of them, they’re about a relationship between a dominant older man and an “innocent” younger woman.  But they aren’t just your run of the mill romance books. As one New York City book reviewer said, they’re “pornography, plain and simple.”

Mommy porn is really just a term for pornography viewed by women or geared toward women.  However you define it, mommy porn is bad for you.

1. Garbage in, garbage out.  “It’s only a story, it’s only a picture, it’s not real, it won’t affect the way I live or the choices I make.”  That’s what a lot of women might think, but studies show what we read and see does affect how we act.  So consuming pornography will affect your way of thinking and living.  Your tolerance for pornography and disturbing material will go up.  You will see the world in a new way.  You will be reminded of the images as you encounter memory triggers throughout your day.  What innocence is left in you will be decreased.

2. Fantasy can make your life look dull and boring.  Erotica (written pornography like Fifty Shades of Grey) and pornography (visual materials) show women a more “exciting” world.  Romance novels have swept women away for decades.  The danger in escaping with erotica or porn is that it makes our real life and our real husbands look less desirable.

3. Pornography is not the norm.  Believe it or not, pornography is not the sexual norm.  Men and women can have an exciting, exhilarating, and great sex life without the escapism of pornography.  Plus, once you start on the pornography treadmill, it’s very difficult to get off.  Pretty soon you need more and more in quantity, and more and more in deviance.
