7 Bad Excuses for Keeping Your Clutter

For some of us, parting with our things is such sweet sorrow.  So we don’t.  We find that hanging onto our clutter is easier than dealing with it and deciding what to do with it.  But hang on no more!  See how many of these six excuses are holding you as prisoner to your clutter.

1.  Everyone has one, so I must need one too. Or the opposite, it’s so unique I have to have it/keep it.

2. It may come in handy one day. I have a friend who held onto a heavy coat for 10 years after she moved from Minnesota to Florida.

3.  I’ll keep it until I find someone to give it to. And when you meet that person, how are you going to find it?

4. I don’t have time to sort through my stuff. How much time do you spend taking care of things you don’t use? Looking for things you really do need amid the clutter?

5.  If I get rid of things, I’m throwing money away. Clutter actually costs you: it robs you of your time, your peace of mind and your space.  Get rid of it.  Being clutter-free is worth more than the $5 thing you’re holding onto.

6.  I don’t know where to start.

7. It will come back in style one day. Not it won’t, and if it does, it will look different.
