Early Signs of Pregnancy

Many women who are trying to conceive tend to anxiously look for any possible signs of pregnancy. And while nothing is conclusive until a pregnancy test is performed, there are a few early signs of pregnancy. According to The Cleveland Clinic and WebMD, pregnant women may exhibit some of the following signs. But keep in mind that every woman is different, and you may experience none of these indicators, some of them, or none at all.

Missed Period

While other factors can contribute to a missed period, such as stress or irregular cycles, missing your period is one of the most common signs of pregnancy.

Frequent Urination

Even in early pregnancy, hormones will begin changing your body. One early change includes the production of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This pregnancy hormone leads to more frequent urination. You may find yourself waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, or making more trips during the day.

Sudden Fatigue

Another result of hormone changes is fatigue. A pregnant body will have higher levels of progesterone, which will lead to exhaustion. If you find yourself suddenly and overwhelmingly tired for no reason, this may be a sign of pregnancy.

Morning Sickness

Despite the name, morning sickness can occur at any time of the day. You may feel nauseated to the point of vomiting, or you may just feel a little queasy. Keep bland snacks on hand, such as crackers, and try to keep something in your stomach throughout the day.

Sore Breasts

Many women experience tenderness in their breasts during PMS. But during pregnancy, the result is more intense. Eventually your body grows used to the new hormones and the pain will lessen. But the early days of pregnancy you will notice soreness and enlargement of the breasts.

If you suspect that you may be pregnant, or you are trying to conceive, make sure that you are following a healthy lifestyle as if you were pregnant. This means eliminating smoking and alcohol, limiting caffeine, eating healthy fruits and vegetables, and drinking plenty of water. Because some birth defects occur in these early stages before the confirmation of a pregnancy test, you must be vigilant about proper nutrition if there is a chance you are pregnant.
