Blended Families and the Discipline Dilemma

If we’ve learned anything lately at iMOM, it’s that parental discipline is hard. Recent articles like 21 Creative Consequences have stirred tremendous interest and lively debate about what works and what doesn’t! So how much harder must it be for those who are trying to discipline with love and consistency in a blended family? Answer: lots.

Step-parents and step-children often struggle to trust and accept one another, making everything far more complex. Dr. Kevin Leman offers 4 Tips for Disciplining in Blended Families that may help you preserve family relationships while establishing boundaries.

The other big hurdles in blended-family parenting are often poor communication and relationships with ex-spouses. Remember—you may have divorced your kids’ dad, but he’s still their father.
