Gift Idea: Cake in a Jar

The flavor of this recipe puts any boxed brownie or cake mix to shame. It looks so pretty in the jar and is perfect for giving—it’s great as a hostess gift.  Serves 8 to 12.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ¼ cups of flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2/3  cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • ½ cup chopped pecans

Layer ingredients, in the above order, in a wide-mouth quart-size canning jar. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next layer. Screw the lid firmly in place.

Include additional toppings like marshmallows, chocolate chips or candy bar pieces in a small baggie attached to the jar or layer the chocolate chips in the jar, as well.
