Terry is a devoted wife and mother of two, living an ideal suburban life in Atlanta when Colin, a charming but dangerous escaped convict, shows up at her door claiming car trouble. Terri offers her phone to help him but soon learns that no good deed goes unpunished as she finds herself fighting for survival when he invades her home and terrorizes her family.
“No Good Deed” works well as a suspense/thriller movie. Just when you think not much is going to happen, something does. The movie stars Idris Elba (“Thor”) as Colin Evans. He plays a man that is up for parole, after being imprisoned for five years for manslaughter. He killed the man that he thought was looking at his girlfriend for too long. He was also accused of abducting five women. When his parole doesn’t happen, he escapes on the way back to the prison. The first person he goes to see is his former girlfriend and she’s scared to tell Colin she is with someone else.
Colin hotwires a truck and flees and on a stormy, rainy night he has an accident, going off the road and hitting a tree. He goes to a home on 17 Creston Lane and finds a woman named Terry (Taraji P. Henson) that is willing to let him use her phone and help him. He uses his charm and soon her compassion moves her to allow him to come in. It’s a big mistake. When Terry’s girlfriend Meg drops by, and becomes suspicious of Colin, it quickly accelerates to a frightening situation for Terry and her two kids.
Unfortunately, the movie is strong in the language and violence arenas, and therefore we are unable to award the film our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal.
