Synopsis

Gene Wilder (“Blazing Saddles,” “Young Frankenstein”) stars in this magical, musical fantasy for the young and the young at heart. The mysterious candymaker extraordinaire Willy Wonka hides a Golden Ticket inside five of his famous candy bars. The kids who find them are invited on a grand tour of the wondrous, wacky Wonka factory, and a chance for an even grander prize—if they can resist temptation. The delightful musical score includes the hit song “The Candyman” and is based on Roald Dahl’s classic novel, produced by David Wolper (“Roots,” “The Thorn Birds”) and nominated for an Academy Award.

Movie Message

The eccentric Willy Wonka played by Gene Wilder is portrayed with his comedic style, his dramatic serious side and his wonderful class. The reclusive Willy Wonka owns a world-renowned chocolate factory that no one has entered in years. He finally opens it by way of a contest in which five lucky children find a golden ticket inside a Wonka candy bar. Each child, along with one accompanying adult, may learn something along the way.

Each child faces a test during the tour through the factory, and the test (or failure) is punctuated by a cute little song from the lovable Oompa Loompas. These songs are catchy little tunes about not eating too much, having good manners, parents letting their child be a spoiled brat, and even watching too much TV. No matter the lesson, there is something for old and young alike. Even good-hearted Charlie and his grandfather misbehave, but because of Charlie’s honesty and good deeds he wins the best prize of all.

Here is a charming movie for the entire family that contains a collection of cute songs, moral values and fun imagination. The Dove Family Approved Seal for all ages is awarded to this original version of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”
