Plastic: What do the numbers on plastics mean?

The next time you're drinking from a plastic cup, or you hand your baby or grandbaby their plastic toy, look for the item's recycling symbol – a number stamped inside a triangle.

The number tells you, and plastics recyclers, what type of material the item is made from and indicates what safety precautions you should take when using it.
