Better (for you) Chocolate Chip Cookies

The "better for you" part of these cookies comes from the whole wheat flour.  Plus, with today's trend toward using artificial sweeteners, this recipe uses nature's bounty of real sugars and real butter.  You can taste the difference!

Ingredients:

  • ½ lb. butter (sweet with no salt), ever so slightly softened
  • ¾ c. sugar
  • 1 ½ c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ c. flour
  • 1 ½ c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tablespoon pure vanilla
  • 1 lb. high quality chocolate chips, chopped well in a blender

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, cream together butter, sugars, and eggs until very light and fluffy.
  2. Add flours, salt, soda, baking powder and vanilla, and beat just until well-incorporated.
  3. Fold in finely chopped chocolate chips.
  4. Refrigerate for 2-24 hours before baking.  (Highly suggested, but not absolutely necessary.)
  5. Roll into tablespoon-sized balls and place on an ungreased baking sheet or parchment paper.
  6. Bake in an oven preheated to 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are just barely beginning to brown.
  7. Remove from oven and cool slightly before dunking
