Age Appropriate Thanksgiving Tasks

If you are having guests for Thanksgiving this year or setting a festive table for your family, everyone can join in the preparation—and have fun working as a team. To make the process a little less stressful, we provide a list of ways kids can chip in with Thanksgiving help!

And even though they might groan, getting kids involved in holiday preparation is a great way to make them feel like a valuable part of the family.

Ages 5-9:

Ages 10-15:

  • Polishing silverware
  • Serving food
  • Clearing the table
  • Helping with cooking, baking, and food prep
  • Taking out the trash
  • Peeling vegetables, simple food prep
  • Washing dishes
  • Vacuuming, cleaning, dusting
  • Yard work, raking leaves
  • Washing dishes
  • Planning activities for before/or after the meal

Ages 16-Adults:

  • Running errands, picking up last-minute ingredients
  • Cooking and overseeing kitchen helpers
  • Washing dishes
  • Ironing table linens
  • Preparing guest rooms
  • Babysitting or entertaining younger siblings
