About 73% of Americans are on social media. Of them, 78% are female. That means a lot of moms are scrolling, posting, commenting, and sharing. Moms with kids under age 15 or so don’t know a parenting world without social media. The impact that has on our kids, our culture, and ourselves is huge. In this episode, the podcast team talks about how to be a good social media mom.

They start with a story from Chloe about a post she saw of a girl who didn’t make the team she tried out for. Chloe noticed the girl looked devastated in the photo. The thing is, the social account wasn’t the girl’s—it was her mom’s. The encouraging note is that a lot of women chimed in to offer kind words to both mom and child, and you could tell the mom was genuinely disappointed for her daughter. But was the news hers to share? As moms, the love we have for our children means their victories and defeats impact us, too. It’s natural for us to want to share them with the people we know, but when are you crossing the line into sharing too much and violating their privacy?

Monitoring a child’s online etiquette is a big responsibility for moms, but what’s just as important is monitoring your own. You set the example of a healthy relationship with social media. Moms have to ask themselves if they’re posting to validate themselves, stealing someone’s thunder, showing false humility, or simply sharing information that should be left within their homes.

If you think your relationship with social media needs some work, Abby, Susan, Megan, and Chloe share ideas that will help any mom scroll less and be more discerning about what she posts.
