Our Favorite Halloween Ideas for Kids

I have a confession: Halloween is just not my favorite holiday. I don’t like scary things, I don’t like feeling scared, and I don’t like to see my kids looking scared. On the other hand, dressing up, candy, and all the games that go with fall and Halloween are fun. But even with those positives, I just don’t get as motivated to be creative for Halloween as I do for Christmas—my favorite holiday. So don’t feel guilty about not being into it. Not every holiday has to be a major overload; choose the holiday you love and go easy on the rest. {Tweet This} And if Halloween holds no appeal for you at all, focus on fall instead.

Fall is my favorite season. I love the crisp air and getting cozy. When my husband and I first got married I used to love lighting spice candles and making comfort food for us for dinner. We used to put on some music, enjoy some Italian sausage soup, and dim the lights. Meanwhile, the sky outside would be getting dark early and we watched the orange leaves swirling around in the wind. It was wonderful. What do you love about this season? There are so many great fall ideas you can do with your family to make this time special.

Do Not Open Until Halloween is Over!

But if you did wait, we hope you made it through the day and evening without costume drama, cranky tears, or candy wars. In fact, the one thing I didn’t enjoy about Halloween when my kids were small was the battles over candy — who got what, their wanting to have it for breakfast, and the claims that “somebody ate my M&Ms.”
