Coping Wheel Printables for Kids and Teens

What if the next time your child had a meltdown or struggled to process an intense emotion, you knew exactly what to say and do? Not just generic advice, but age-appropriate responses tailored to kids and teens.
Well, that’s why we created these Coping Wheels for Kids and Teens. Every mom knows helping kids name their feelings is important, but what comes next? How do we help them work through those emotions in healthy ways? These wheels provide you and your child concrete strategies that build both emotional intelligence and practical coping skills.

What You’ll Find in the Free Printable Coping Wheels

Elementary Coping Wheel (Ages 5–11): Perfect for younger kids who are just learning to name their feelings. Each emotion comes with easy-to-remember strategies, such as:
  • Insecure? Stand like a superhero and say, “I’m strong and doing my best.”
  • Stressed? Put a stuffed animal on my belly and make it go up and down.
  • Annoyed? Take a break and march in place for 30 seconds.
Tween/Teen Coping Wheel (Ages 12+): Designed for tweens and teens who need more sophisticated emotional tools, such as:
  • Insecure? Call out the lies in my head by reminding myself what’s true. And take a break from social media.
  • Stressed? Try box breathing (4 counts in, hold for 4, 4 counts out, hold for 4); then focus on what needs to get done.
  • Annoyed? Go for a run or do something else physical to cool off before I say something I’ll regret.

Why Use a Coping Wheel?

Each coping wheel covers the emotions on the iMOM Feelings Wheel and uses evidence-based methods for emotional regulation, including movement, breathing techniques, sensory activities, creative expression, and social connection.

How to Use

Print and put the coping wheel somewhere your child can easily see, such as the fridge or taped to the bathroom mirror. When emotions run high, help your child identify the emotion and try the suggested strategy together.
