Family Olympic Games

Let the games begin!  Get stronger by getting fit with these fun Olympic Games.  We’ve come up with lots of ideas, but pick and choose the ones you like, or make up some of your own.

Here’s a fun twist on your Olympic Games: set a family goal for each event.  Start with the youngest and work up in age from there.  Record each team member’s results and put them toward the family goal.  If your team falls short of the goal, Dad or Mom has to make up the difference and the whole family has to do 20 jumping jacks.

Track and Field:

  • Sock Shuttle Run (This video shows you how to do a shuttle run.  Use a pair of rolled up socks for your race.)
  • Distance Throw
  • Standing Long Jump
  • Spoon and Egg Race

Strength:

  • Push Ups
  • Sit Ups
  • Plank Hold
  • Stair Climb
  • Wall Sit
  • Jumping Jack Challenge

Swimming:

  • Timed Laps
  • Tread Water
  • Water Bucket Race
  • Diving for Rings

Cycling and Balance:

  • Cartwheels

The Closing Ceremony and Awards

The games aren’t complete without a proper celebration!

  • Award Ceremony: End the day with a fun awards ceremony. You don’t need expensive medals—ribbons, painted pasta (macaroni), or even cutout paper gold medals work perfectly!

  • Award Categories: Don’t just award the fastest or strongest! Create fun categories like:

    • The MVP (Most Valuable Player)

    • The Best Sport Award

    • The Most Creative Cheerleader

    • The Perseverance Prize (for the person who kept trying!)

The Olympic Feast: Order a pizza or make a special meal together to celebrate everyone’s effort and good sportsmanship.

If you could compete in any Olympic event, what would you choose?
