The Discipline Du Jour

Child discipline has been debated for centuries. What’s the best technique? How do you discipline with love? Why is it that the discipline that works on one child totally flops on another? In this episode, Megan shares her struggles with getting her son to cooperate. If you’ve ever thought “nothing works with this child!” you’ll feel right at home in our discussion.

We’ll talk about the theories behind some methods that are less effective, like counting to three. Anyone else hear yourself saying “one, one-and-a-half, two…” way too often? We’ll also talk about some other methods that are iMOM approved, like the power of why. Susan shares a story about her daughter experiencing the consequences of wearing sparkly shoes (hello blisters!) and Abby divulges her mom’s unorthodox practice that finally got Abby to keep her room clean.

But here’s what it comes down to: Kids are a work in progress and sometimes that progress is messy. And when you think about it, moms are a work in progress, too. We’re learning and growing right alongside our children, so don’t be afraid to give yourself grace and switch up your methods if you realize they aren’t a good fit for your and your kids. As you listen to this episode of the iMOM Podcast, remember that what works for us might not work for you. But consistent boundaries, correction, praise, and love will work wonders on a challenging child.
