Should Kids Have Phones?

Your kids probably started asking for a cell phone as soon as they could talk. You likely didn’t buy your 4-year-old her own phone, but if your kids are getting older, you might be wondering: Should kids have phones and at what age? In this episode, Susan tells the story of when her five kids got phones and how she managed them to make sure they weren’t interfering with their family.

If you’re listening to this episode in the hopes of getting a clear answer on what the right age is and how to set all the right rules in place so your child has a healthy relationship with her phone, that’s not what you’re going to get. What you will get is an honest conversation about different kids’ ages and responsibility levels, the dangers of just handing a phone over to a child, and ways to ease into phones. They’ll also talk about what ages they got their first phones and what kind of phones they were—and Chloe admits she loves the game Snake, despite the fact she never had 1999’s Nokia.

If you think that once you hand a phone over you just have to hope for the best, the iMOM Podcast team will empower you to take back control and remember the phone is yours! You just let them use it, and you can take it away! Moms will be challenged in this episode, too. If we don’t want our kids to be addicted to their phones, then we have to set a better example. Susan, Megan, Chloe, and Abby will share ways to practice better discipline for yourself and your kids.
