What’s Your Self-Love Language?

You’ve probably heard of the bestselling book The 5 Love Languages by Dr Gary Chapman. Over 20 million copies have been sold. Basically, the love languages are how you show and want to be shown love. The five languages are quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, and physical touch. If you don’t know your love language, take the quiz below. Have your husband take it, too. Knowing how you both “speak” love can be eye-opening and help you understand how to love each other in ways that mean more.

If we speak different love languages to our spouses and children, then it can be argued that we speak one of the love languages to ourselves, too. The way one woman likes to care for herself isn’t going to resonate with all women. In this episode, Abby tells a story about realizing bubble baths are not the universal way a mom shows herself love!

We think you’ll love listening to the examples of how the love languages translate to self-love and care. Even if you know the love languages and how they apply to loving others, there’s a slight nuance to how they apply to yourself, so you might come to learn you speak a different language than you initially guessed.

And here’s a big lightbulb thought for you: If every form of self-care and love sounds like the one you need, chances are good you are self-love starved. It’s like being in a relationship where you crave any sign of affection. Figure out the best way to love yourself, and then carve out time—even once a month—to make it happen.
