Who is Generation Alpha? Chances are, you have a member of this new generation living under your roof right now. They’re the kids born between 2010 and the end of 2024. They’re the first entire generation born in the 21st century, and they’re also known as the iPad Generation. If your children are in this group, then this episode of the iMOM Podcast will hit home. Hopefully you’ll also walk away with some tools and insight into what challenges they face, what makes them tick, and what helps them thrive.
Before we answer the question—”Who is Generation Alpha?”—we talk about the generations each of us fall into. Three out of four of the podcast ladies were born on the cusp of two generations. Susan is Boomer/Gen X, Abby is Gen X/Millennial, and Chloe is Millennial/Gen Z. Megan falls solidly in the Millennial range. When you’re thinking about a generation of kids, you can’t discount the impact made by the generation raising them. Think about the things your parents believed in, valued, or spent money on and how that shaped who you are. This is important because while you’ll hear all the characteristics of Generation Alpha in this episode, you have to keep in mind that the most important influence in the life of your Gen Alpha kid is you.
We also talk in this episode about some of the unique opportunities and challenges that Generation Alpha faces compared to previous generations and how technology is shaping their view of themselves and the world. If you’re ever feeling like you have a tough job as a mom of a child today, never forget that you were made to do this, and you’ve been appointed to this job now for a reason.
