5 Bad Habits You Don’t Want to Pass on to Your Children

Dinner took me forever, it had been a long day, and my feet were killing me. After finally sitting down to eat I went to grab something and accidentally hit my drink spilling it everywhere. I blurted out something I shouldn’t have said in frustration. It took about two seconds for my three-year-old son to start repeating what I had said.

Like it or not, when it comes to parenting our kids, monkey see, monkey do. So break these 5 bad habits in your own life so you don’t pass them on to your children.

1. A bad attitude

If you’re a complainer, your kids will complain. If you badmouth other people, your kids will too. If you blame everyone else for your troubles, guess who will follow in your footsteps? Your kids will catch your attitude, and you’re doing them no favors if the attitude you’re sharing is a negative one.

2. An uncontrolled temper

Take it from someone who has lost it big time in front of her children. You do not want your children to mimic you in this. So, learn how to keep your cool and handle stress and anger calmly and maturely.

3. Unhealthy eating habits

Okay, I admit it; I love a good fast food burger. But I know they’re not good for my kids. So, I stopped going through the drive-through when my kids were with me. Eventually, I stopped going altogether. I still miss those little morsels of white bun goodness, but I know it’s better for my kids if I set an example of healthy eating.

4. Dishonesty

So your kids see you keep the extra change at the store or lie about their age so you can get them the kids meal. Hmm. What is that teaching them? If you want your kids to be honest with the big things, it starts with you being honest in the little things.

5. Disrespect

If you diss your husband, how do you think your kids will treat their husband or wife? If you treat your kids disrespectfully, how do you think they’ll treat others? If you model disrespect, consider it “caught” by your children.
