From my “Not-So-Great Moments in Parenting” this moment happened after school last week. Recently, I sat in the carpool line at my kids’ school listening to sports talk radio. You see, my alma mater was mere days away from playing for a national championship, and I couldn’t miss a second of the excitement. Finally, I pulled up to the curb where the kids hop in, and they bounced into the car chattering like chipmunks. “Hush!” I hissed, “They’re talking about the game!” Of course, what my kids also heard was, “…and it’s way more important than how your day went!”

How do you like to be greeted? Doesn’t it make you feel good and secure when someone gives you their full attention and an enthusiastic greeting? The way you greet people reveals your priorities. Well, think about how your children feel when they see you when they get up, after school, or when you pick them up from an activity. At these times, lovingly communicating with children is key.
