Battling the Sunday Scaries

The Sunday Scaries, or the Sunday Blues, hit both adults and children. They’re that icky feeling you get on Sunday evenings when you start thinking about what the work or school week has in store. Many of us let the Sunday Scaries rob us of joy and peace at the end of a weekend, but in this episode, we aim to help you stop that.

According to a LinkedIn survey, 80% of professionals say they experience the Sunday Scaries, and apparently Americans get them worse.
A survey by Monster.com had similar results to the LinkedIn survey, with 76% of Americans having experienced it but only 47% of people in other parts of the world. Abby, Susan, Megan, and Chloe share theories on why that might be and what they experience as a new work week approaches.

Kids don’t have the same work stresses as adults, but tests, friend dynamics, and having to wake up to an alarm can bring on the Sunday Scaries, so in this episode, we talk about some ideas to help ward off these bad feelings. We also try to look at what could be at the root of these feelings. Is it a lack of rest? Overworking? Procrastination? Identifying the cause can help you make changes that eliminate the Sunday Scaries.

Ultimately, we should all want for our kids and ourselves to live in the present. Sure, we have to plan for things, but “considering tomorrow” and “living in tomorrow” are two different things. So start by helping your kids with exercises like noticing something good that’s happening right then or making short to-do lists for Mondays so they can release the tasks, be present, and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
