Timing in Life Is Everything

Think back to before you had kids when you had a dream for when you’d first get pregnant. Did you have that perfect plan and do you remember people asking you when you were going to start trying? If you’re having trouble remembering, Chloe’s story will bring it all back.

Since she tied the knot a few years ago, she’s been asked over and over again when she and her husband are going to start trying to have children. She works for iMOM after all! The funny thing is, she’s getting hit from both sides. She had back-to-back conversations with women. One said, “Hurry up. Getting pregnant might not come easily.” The other said, “Don’t rush. You have so much time!” And Chloe hadn’t even asked for either word of advice.

Every mom has a story about how she became a mom—we aren’t in a place to judge the timing of that. And we all remember being asked when we’re going to have children and having to awkwardly respond or dodge the question. But once we’re on this side of motherhood, we feel like we’ve earned the right to give our two cents. What if, instead of giving unsolicited advice, we talked about the best parts of pregnancy and motherhood with the women who don’t yet have children?

Did you know statistics show that the median age of U.S. women giving birth moved from 27 to 30 and is at an all-time high? In this episode, we also talk about the pros and cons of waiting to have kids and the impact that delaying children has on the culture.
